Background

In December 2022, an agreement was reached between Cengiz Enerji and the government of the Syrdarya region to build a 450 MW gas-piston power plant. The project is estimated to cost $300 million. [1] In August 2023, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Mehmet Cengiz, Chairman of the Board of Cengiz Holding (Turkey), to discuss issues of expanding bilateral cooperation, including construction of the power station in the Syrdarya region.[7] In November 2023, the project was mentioned again in the media.[8][9]

As of November 2024, there have not been updates about the construction of the power station. The power plant is not mentioned on the website of Cenergo LLC, established by Cengiz Holding to operate three other plants in Uzbekistan built and owned by Cengiz Enerji.[10]
