Background

The project proposal is being studied by developers.[1]

An energy megaproject in Chana, which could include smart city infrastructure and an LNG power plant, has spurred protests due to the proposed project's impacts on coastal communities and local livelihoods.[2]

In March 2021, it was reported that Korea Western Power, Thai Petrochemical Industry Polene Power (TPIPP) and Korea Gas Corporation signed an agreement to build an LNG terminal and LNG-fired power plant in the area.[3]

As of July 2023, there are no updates on the project in over two years, and the project is presumed to be shelved.
