Background
The six coal-fired units of Changshu-1 power station, totaling 3,320 MW, were brought online between 1993 and 2013. The plant was originally owned by CPI.[2][3][4]
Expansion
Jiangsu DRC issued two documents in September 2022 and January 2023 with proposals of two batches of "supporting" coal power projects to implement President Xi's national "先立后改" energy strategy. The proposals included a 3 x 660 MW expansion project.[5]
On June 30, 2023, the 3 x 660 MW expansion was approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission (苏发改能源发〔2023〕716号, portal update timestamp: 2023/07/12).[6]
Ownership
In July 2015, China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) and State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) merged to become State Power Investment Corporation (国家电力投资集团), one of the five largest state-owned electricity producers in the People's Republic of China.[7]
