Background

The Cheremkhovsky coal mine (разрез Черемховский) is an operating surface mine in Irkutsk Oblast, Russia. Cheremkhovsky coal mine is owned and operated by Razrez Cheremhovugol LLC. It is considered that Cheremhovugol LLC is part of Vostsibugol but EN+ Group's 2022 annual report referred to separate 100% ownership of this subsidiary. Vostsibugol is also ultimately owned by EN+ Group.

Despite its relatively big size, information on the mine is very limited.

Cheremkhovsky is the oldest mine of Vostsibugol. In 2019 the mine reached reached a 200 million tonne production threshold since its start of operations in 1955.

Cheremkhovsky coal mine produced 4.6 million tonnes in 2018. In the first half of 2022, Cheremkhovsky produced 1.8 million tonnes according to Argus Coal H1 2022 report, which was 26% higher than in the same period in 2021. A media source from August 2023 reported on the plan to produce 4.6 million tonnes in 2022, 12% higher than in the previous year. The mine will continue to increase production. The boundaries of existing mine field are expanding, which will extend their operation. New coal deposits are being developed - these are the Nygdinsky site and the Voznesenskoye deposit, where first coal is expected in 2024. Reserves within the licensed boundaries of the new areas exceed 40 million tonnes. The company is an export-oriented enterprise.
