Background
The project has been proposed by a 50/50 joint venture between NTPC and Coal India.[1]
Coal allocation cancelled
On November 24, 2010, the Ministry of Coal informed NTPC that the allocation of the Bhahmini and Chichro Patsimal coal blocks to the 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and Coal India had been cancelled due to failure to develop the block. The letter noted that the joint venture had not been finalized even though the targeted date of coal production from the block had already passed.[2]
In January 2012 the India Coal Ministry re-allocated the Chichro Patsimal coal block to Coal India.[3]
