Background on Plant

The 48-MW Chulmanskaya power station is owned by Far Eastern Generating Company, which in turn is owned by RusHydro.

The plant's four 12MW units went online in between 1970-1978.[1]

Planned retirement

In May 2021, it was reported that when the expansion of Neryungrinskaya power station comes online, the Chulmanskaya power plant will be decommissioned.[2][3] The heating needs for the settlement of Chulman will be covered by a new gas-fired boiler.[2]

The government decree from February 2022 lists units 3,5, and 6 for planned retirement already by 2023, ahead of the planned commissioning of the new units at Neryingrinskaya in 2025.[4] This would leave only 12MW of available capacity at Chulmanskaya power station.

The plant generated 100 million kWh of electricity in 2020.[5]
