Background
The Clifford coal project is a proposed open-cut thermal coal mine.[2] The proposed site lies in an area heavy with mining proposals in the Surat Basin, north west of Wandoan, Queensland, Australia.[2]
As of 2022, without any recent developments, the project appears cancelled. The Clifford project covers approximately 820 square kilometres in Queensland’s highly prospective Surat Basin, near Stanmore Resources’ Range coal project. The project is a joint exploration initiative between Stanmore (60%) and Japanese Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC; 40%).
The Stanmore Coal website suggests that the coal would be exported via the Port of Gladstone to Japanese power stations.[2]
