Background

Compass Port LNG Terminal was a proposed deepwater port LNG terminal off the coast of Alabama and Mississippi, United States. In 2006, ConocoPhillips withdrew their application for a license for the facility under the Deepwater Port Act.

Opposition

Opposition came from both Alabama and Mississippi state governments, the Sierra Club, Public Citizen and the Coastal Conservation Association, among other grassroots organizations. Concerns included the impact on marine fisheries and other environmental concerns.
