Background

Dalanzadgad Thermal Power Plant in Ömnögovi province has been providing residential heat since 2000 and 9 MW of electricity since 2018.[4][5]

In October 2023, the power station's executive director said that provincial and local officials were proposing a new 50 MW combined heat and power (CHP) station at Dalanzadgad. A feasibility study had been completed and the project was pending consideration by the Ministry of Energy's Science and Technology Council. The project still needed a source of funding, which was estimated to be US$130 million.[6][7]

In March 2024, the Science and Technology Council reportedly reviewed and supported the power plant's feasibility study.[8] The project was expected to be built through a public-private partnership.[9]

As of September 2024, there were no apparent updates related to the proposed 50 MW unit.
