The Deep Creek mine is a coal mine being proposed by Bathurst Resources as a part of its multi-mine Buller Coal Project. The mine is located on the Denniston Plateau just inland from Westport on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Background

The Deep Creek mine has been touted as a one million tonne per annum project which could be commissioned in 2014 utilising the same processing infrastructure as the Escarpment mine. The company estimates that it contains 5.8 million tonnes of proved coal resource and an additional 2.7 million tonnes of probable resource. The company estimates that the total proved and probable coal which could be sold could be 7.5 million tonnes.
