Deer Creek Mine
Deer Creek Mine was an underground coal mine located in Huntington, Utah, operated by Energy West Mining Co.
The mine sends several million tons of coal annually to the Huntington Power Plant, Carbon Power Plant, and Hunter Power Plant, all owned and operated by MidAmerican Energy, part of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. Deer Creek Mine is also now owned by Berkshire: PacifiCorp acquired the mine in 1977 from Peabody Coal, which began operations in 1969, and PacifiCorp was acquired by MidAmerican Energy in 2006.[1]
Deer Creek Mine was closed in 2015 because of rising operational costs. [2]
