Background

Delmas Colliery Coal Mine is an underground mine in Delmas, Mpumalanga, South Africa. Delmas Coal (Pty) Ltd, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kuyasa Mining, operates the mine. The mine was purchased by Kuyasa from BHB Billiton in 2002. The coal produced at Delmas is consumed entirely by customers in the South African domestic market.

Coal from the mine will also be supplied by conveyor mine to a proposed 600 MW coal-fired Independent Power Plant (IPP) which will sit adjacent to Delmas Coal.
