Background
In May 2022, Mobile, Alabama became the first city in the state to approve a cryptomining operation. Distributed Ledger, a cryptocurrency service provider, entered into a partnership with the GulfQuest Maritime Museum Board to establish a cryptomining operation at the museum site. [1] The operation will be carried out in an air-cooled modified shipping container housing 100 miners. While city officials have highlighted that this project is part of a larger push to develop sustainable revenue sources for the city, there is not much clarity on whether the project will run on power sourced from renewables and at what operational capacity.
