Eagle FSRU is a cancelled floating LNG terminal off the coast of Albania.

Location

The map below shows the town of Levan, in Fier County, Albania. The FLNG terminal would be located near Levan, approximately 6 km offshore. It would deliver gas to Italy's Apulia region, through a 110 km subsea pipeline spanning the Strait of Otranto.

Background

Eagle FSRU was a proposal by Gruppo Falcione, a mid-sized Italian construction firm, for a floating storage & regasification unit (FSRU) that would be located 6 km off the coast of Albania, near the town of Levan. The FSRU would have primarily supplied gas to Italy's Apulia region, through a 110-km subsea pipeline spanning the Strait of Otranto, the Eagle FLNG Pipeline. It would have had an initial capacity of 5.4 million tonnes per year (mtpa), or 0.77 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd), and was projected to cost around $1.1 billion. Developers proposed that the terminal's capacity be expanded by a second phase, by an additional 2.7 mtpa.

In December 2008, Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi and Albanian PM Sali Berisha signed a permit agreement for the project. At the time, construction was scheduled to begin in 2011, and completion for 2014-16.

There has been no mention of this project in the news since 2008; thus, it appears to be cancelled.
