Background
Unit 1 (37.5 MW) converted from coal to gas/fuel oil in 2014 and remains operational[6]. The unit is owned Corn Belt Power Cooperative and is not included in the Global Gas Plant Tracker as per the Global Energy Monitor's methodology.[7]
The fuel source for Unit 2 (81.6 MW) was listed as natural gas until 2022 in EIA data.[8] In 2022 data the fuel is listed as petroleum liquids.[8] The unit can operate on both fuels.[9] Unit 2 is a Basin Electric peaking power resource. The unit is a partnership between Basin Electric and Corn Belt Power Cooperative. Corn Belt Power is a member-owner of Basin Electric. Basin Electric and Corn Belt Power each have a 40-MW ownership share in the 80-MW gas/oil-fired combustion turbine. Corn Belt Power operates and maintain the units.[9]
