Background

A joint venture formed by Punjab Group and LNG Easy have proposed to build an LNG import terminal at the Port of Karachi in Karachi, Pakistan. LNG Easy is a Singapore-based LNG retailer and distributor and Punjab Group is one of the largest private education providers in Pakistan. The LNG import was originally planned to come online in 2022, and reportedly could import 500,000 million tonnes in 2023. The full capacity of the facility would be 1 mtpa. According to LNG Easy's CEO He Yiyong, “LNG will be trucked in ISO tanks or road tankers to satellite stations to be set up in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore, with railway transport to come at a later stage.” [1]
