Background

El Corozo mine or Mina El Corozo is located in northern Colombia, near La Jagua de Ibírico in Colombia's Cesar Department.[6] Mina El Corozo is one of three coal mines in Colombia's Cesar department owned by Alabama-based Drummond Company Inc and operated through its Colombian subsidiary Drummond International LLC.[6] The El Corozo mine began commercial operations in March 2021, joining Drummond's two other existing mines, El Descanso and Pribbenow.[7]

Coal Production & Exports

The El Corozo mine produced 700,000 tonnes of coal during its first year of operation in 2021.[6] Drummond's 2021 annual report reported that the company had been Colombia's leading coal producer for six consecutive years.[6] Combined production from all of Drummond's Colombian mines totaled 28.9 million tonnes in 2021, while exports rose to 31.5 million tonnes.[6]
