Background
In March 2023, following pre-FEED studies that began in mid-2022, TotalEnergies launched the fully integrated front-end engineering and design (FEED) stage for the proposed Papua LNG project, that includes the Elk-Antelope-Caution Bay Gas Pipeline.[3] A final investment decision (FID) for the Papua LNG project is expected between late 2023 and early 2024.[3] Construction should be expected to start in 2024.[3]
Gas from the Elk and Antelope fields will be transported via the 320-km Elk-Antelope-Caution Bay Gas Pipeline to the Papua LNG Terminal in Caution Bay.[3][4] To integrate the Papua LNG and PNG LNG projects, TotalEnergies announced that it will join the PNG LNG project through an agreement with JX Nippon after a Kumul Petroleum Holdings back-in right.[3]
