Background
Under the Canadian component of the Line 3 Replacement Program, Enbridge proposed to spend CAN$5.3 billion to replace all remaining segments of its Line 3 pipeline within Canada.[5] The project includes the replacement of existing 34-inch-diameter pipe with 36-inch-diameter pipe from Hardisty to Gretna, Manitoba.[5]
In November 2016, the Canadian federal government approved the Line 3 Replacement Program.[5] Construction on the Canadian portion of the project began in Summer 2017.[6]
In Canada, construction wrapped up on the Line 3 Replacement Program—spanning a 665-mile (1,070-km) portion of Line 3 between between Hardisty, Alberta and Gretna, Manitoba—in May 2019. The 36-inch-diameter replacement pipeline began commercial service in December 2019[7] and was rebranded as Line 93.
In the United States, the Line 3 Replacement Project became operational in 2021.[1]
