Background

The Erkovetskiy coal mine (Ерковецкий разрез) is a surface mine in the Amur Oblast, Russia. The Erkovetsky coal mine is owned and operated by Amurugol JSC, a subsidiary of Russian Coal.

It produces thermal coal for domestic market. The mine is situated in a mountainous region. Coal is supplied to Blagoveshchensk power station and Raichihinskaya power station.

Its capacity is 2.5 million tonnes per annum. In the first half of 2022, the coal mine produced 1 million tonnes of coal, which was 11% higher than in the same period in 2021. During 9 months of 2022, the mine produced 1.6 million tonnes of coal.

In 2023, a new coal mining technology was introduced at the mine - automobile stripping. It allowed increasing production volumes from 2.1 to 2.9 million tons. In the future, the technology will make it possible to increase the capacity to 3.6 million tonnes. In 2024, the new technology allowed to increase production to 2.3 million tonnes. Further expansion was planned up to 3.6 million tonnes.
