Background

The Fushi Kruji cement plant was initially commissioned by the Albanian government, operating 3 wet-process kilns and producing 0.3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of cement. Clinker production was retired in 1995 due to political unrest, during which time the plant ceased operation for 3 years and the kilns were decommissioned. The plant was purchased by Seament Holding Group in 2000 and converted into a clinker grinding plant with a capacity of 0.5 mtpa. In 2006, the plant commissioned 2 new dry process kilns to restart clinker production.
