Background
On December 15, 2016, Höegh LNG Holdings signed an FSRU contract with Pakistan's Global Energy Infrastructure Limited for GEIL's LNG import project near Karachi, Pakistan. The project is the first private LNG import terminal in Pakistan and will be located at the LNG zone in Port Qasim. The construction of the terminal was planned to commence early 2017, and the expected start-up was second quarter of 2018.[1]
By February 2017, a consortium had formed to advance the project, which included GEIL, Höegh LNG, TotalEnergies, Mitsubishi, and ExxonMobil.[2]
In November 2017, Höegh LNG terminated its FSRU deal with GEIL following the dissolution of the consortium with GEIL.[3]
There have been no development updates in over four years, and the project is presumed cancelled as of 2022.
