Background

The 770-kilometer GR-5 gas pipeline[1] was built to bring gas from the Reggane Nord, Touat, and Timimoun gas fields to Hassi R'Mel. The project began in 2009, with research and engineering done by Sofregaz.[2] The project was the first phase of Sonatrach’s South West Gas Project (SWGP).[3] The pipeline was inaugurated in February 2018.[4]
