Background

The field is a combination of the redevelopment of the former North West (NW) Hutton field and the appraised Darwin discovery. The NW Hutton part of the Galapagos field was discovered in 1975 under licenses P184 and P474 and developed in the 1980s–1990s by Amoco Corporation and later BP. Production started in 1983 and ceased in 2003. The field was estimated to originally contain 487 Mmboe, with 126 Mmboe recovered since the start of production. The southern Darwin extension of the field was discovered in 1975 by Amoco Corporation and remained undeveloped. The three licenses covering the area were subsequently acquired by UK-based Fairfield Energy and later TAQA. In 2012, TAQA’s appraisal wells proved additional reserves at Darwin, but due to financial considerations, TAQA relinquished one of its licenses covering the south-easternmost area of Darwin. Bridge Petroleum acquired the remaining two licenses covering NW Hutton and the main Darwin area from TAQA and INEOS in 2017. Bridge Petroleum has been awarded five licenses in the 2018 licensing round and is the sole owner and operator of the field. Bridge Petroleum is privately owned.

Production is expected to start in 2025, is forecast to peak in 2026, and will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2056.
