Project details

  • Operator: APA Group[1]
  • Owner: APA Group (100%)[1]
  • Parent company: APA Group (100%)[2]
  • Length: 240 kilometers / 149 miles[3]
  • Status: Cancelled[4]

Background

In August 2019, APA Group received a survey license for the pipeline from the Queensland government.[5][6]

The development of this pipeline was ultimately conditional on a financial investment decision made by Comet Ridge Ltd and Vintage Energy Ltd.[3][7] APA group noted it would investigate a range of potential capacities and market scenarios for the pipeline, as well as other details, before development moved forward.[3]

The 2021 Australian National Gas Infrastructure Plan mentioned this pipeline as one of three potential options to expand gas in the Bowen Basin, so it was still considered proposed.[8] Arrow Bowen Pipeline, Blue Energy Bowen Gas Pipeline, and Galilee to Moranbah Gas Pipeline are three candidate routes for delivering natural gas from the North Bowen Basin if it is further developed. While there were no requirements on potential ownership of these routes, the NGIP mentioned the need for such infrastructure to be in place by 2028 to avoid gas shortfalls.

In January 2023, the Gas inquiry 2017–2030 Interim report published by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) stated that "A number of other major pipeline projects, such as, APA’s proposed Galilee Moranbah pipeline and Western Slopes Pipeline are no longer being progressed", so the project is considered cancelled as of 2023.
