Background

The pipeline is owned and operated by Esentia Energy[4] (formerly known as Fermaca de México[5]). The project was launched in 2012 under a 25-year agreement with Mexico's CFE (Comisión Federal de Electricidad), and construction was completed in 2013.

The Tarahumara Pipeline forms part of a network that transports natural gas from Texas's Permian Basin to Mexico. At its northern end along the U.S.-Mexico border, the pipeline connects with Esentia Energy's Roadrunner pipeline and El Paso Natural Gas's Norte Crossing pipeline[10]; at its southern end, the pipeline connects with Esentia's El Encino-La Laguna Gas Pipeline.[10][11]

Financing

The primary financing deal for the pipeline consisted of US$472m construction financing from Banamex, Banobras, MUFG, Crédit Agricole, ING, Nafinsa and Scotiabank. In May 2014, Citi, Deutsche Bank, Crédit Agricole and ING were the bookrunners for a US$550m bond issue to be used for refinancing of the project.[8]
