Background

Gazli-Shymkent Gas Pipeline and Bukhara-Tashkent-Bishkek-Almaty Gas Pipeline were constructed in the USSR to supply South Kazakhstan with gas from the Gazli gas field in Uzbekistan.

Environment and social impacts

In 2019 the gas leak at the seventy-sixth kilometer of the pipeline caused a fire.
