The GeoBitmine Bingham County facility is a proposed cryptocurrency mining operation to be located at the closed JR Simplot potato processing facility in Aberdeen, Idaho, USA.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the proposed GeoBitmine Bingham County facility in Aberdeen, Idaho, USA.
Background
The proposal is based on utilizing waste heat from the mining rigs to heat a series of industrial-sized greenhouses to grow food year round.[1] As of August 2, 2022, Idaho Power, the electric provider at the Simplot site, and GeoBitmine have not reached an agreement for the provision of electricity at the site.[2] Idaho Power created a new rate class -- known as Schedule 20 -- for GeoBitmine and similar power consumers, which includes provisions for interruptible service, which GeoBitmine challenged.[3] [4] While reports have indicated that the facility would initially consume 6 MW[3], Schedule 20 would apply to consumers over 20 MW, suggesting that the ultimate plans would exceed that threshold.
