Background

In  October 2012, the plant was commissioned.[9][10]

The power plant is an open cycle gas turbine power plant built to accommodate future conversion to a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) configuration.[11] The Federal Government announced that it will sell the Geregu 2, Omotosho 2, and Calabar power plants for N434 billion (US $1 billion) in 2021.[12] The power plant would be sold for N140.7 billion (US $339 million).

The plant has two proposed units with a total generating capacity of 729 MW.  The first unit (285 MW) and the second unit (444 MW) are expected to come online in 2027 and 2030 respectively.[13]
