Background

The plant was built by the Nigerian government in 2007.[10]The gas supply sources are the Oben-Geregu pipeline and the Oben gas plant.[11]

In 2013, the power generation division of Forte Oil Plc, Amperion Power, acquired the power plant as part of a privatization effort by the Nigerian government.[10]

In 2016, the plant overhaul increased capacity from 414 MW to 435 MW with potential for future growth and development.[12] Siemens partnered with Forte Oil’s Amperion Power to successfully complete the on-site modernization of the plant.[10] The upgrade cost US $93 million. The upgrade increased profitability by 58 percent and boosted power by 21 MW in February 2017 compared to February 2016.[10] The plant overhaul increased capacity from 414 MW to 435 MW with potential for future growth and development.[12]

The plant has three proposed units with 414 MW total generating capacity. They are expected to come online in 2029.[13]
