Background
Glanford Brigg was originally commissioned as a combined-cycle unit with a capacity of 260 MW and was expect to run up to 2013.[8] Centrica announced they planned to close the combined-cycle unit in their 2014 annual report[9] and Centrica terminated its generating license in 2015.[10][11] However, instead of closure Centrica converted the plant to a 99 MW peaking "distributed energy asset" which operates as an open cycle gas turbine[12][13][14][15]
In 2018 Centrica completed the construction of an additional 50 MW gas-fired engine block at the site.[16]
According to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSOE), as of October 2021, the plant had not generated electricity since September 2020, making it's status mothballed.[17]
For 2023, there were plans for a 12 month trial of hydrogen in a gas-fired grid connected plant.[18]
