Background

In accordance with the contract signed with Azərenerji OJSC, Wärtsilä supplied 21 power modules based on 20V50SG engines with a capacity of 18.3 MW each for the project. They operate as part of the power plant located in close proximity to Baku. The total capacity of the power plant in the Gobu settlement of the Absheron district is 385 MW, making it the largest gas piston power plant in the Commonwealth of Independent States. The combined-cycle power plant operates in a simple cycle, with all generated electricity being transmitted to the national grid. As part of the project implementation, a substation named "Gobu" with a voltage of 330/220/110 kV has been constructed.[2]

The Gobu Energy Hub holds significant importance within the country, particularly in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula. It plays a crucial role in meeting the rapidly growing demand for electricity, reducing reliance on power plants in the Baku and Absheron regions and enhancing the resilience and reliability of the electricity supply.[6]
