Background
In July 2012, the Nigeria Federal Government said that was planning to begin the survey for the construction of a coal-fired power station, as well as two others with a capacity of 1,000 MW in Enugu and Kogi states.[1]
In 2012, it was also reported that the Nigerian federal government had entered into an agreement with a German firm to construct a 350 megawatt coal power plant in Gombe State.[2]
In January 2015, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission said it had issued a fresh license to the private company, Trombay Power Generation Limited, to build and operate a 500 MW coal power plant in Gombe State. The plant would be fueled by deposits of coal in the Gombe axis of Nigeria's coal belt.[3]
With no reported progress on the plant since 2015, the project appears to be shelved or abandoned.
