Kaniha coal mine is operated by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India in India.[8]
The mine is part of Talcher coal mines.[9] This opencast coal mine was expanded from 10 MPTA to 14 MTPA in ML area of 718 ha in 2017.[8]
