Background

In November 2022, Petronet LNG announced that it planned to build an LNG import terminal at Gopalpur port in Odisha, India.[4] The project will be built in two phases: first, a 4-mtpa FSRU will deployed at the site. For the second phase, there is a provision for the facility to be converted to an onshore terminal with a total capacity of 5 mtpa.[1][2] The full project is expected to cost 23.06 billion rupees (US$285.5 million).[1]

In December 2023, it was reported that Petronet LNG was moving forward with its plans for the FSRU. Petronet and Gopalpur Ports signed a sub-concession agreement, sub-lease deed, and port service agreement for the first phase of the terminal.[5]
