Background

The coal mine is owned by Pervomaiskugol, a state-owned enterprise of Ukraine.

Already in 2019, operations of the coal mine were suspended due to to high levels of debt for electricity. The mine was not producing although water was being pumped. However as of 2020, the mine was again operating, but producing only 6,000 tonnes per month (that's about 0.072 Mt per year).

The mines of Pervomaiskugol jointly produced 0.17 Mt in 2021.

With the start of Russia's invasion in February 2022, the mine was flooded.
