Background

In June 2023, Offshore Energy reported that the company Grand Isle LNG had announced plans to build a new offshore, deepwater port LNG export facility 13 miles south of Grand Isle in Louisiana. The deepwater port would be a modular, platform-based design, comprising 2 platforms with capacities of 2.1 mtpa each. Construction of the project would occur in two phases. The terminal is expected to begin operation in 2026.[1]

The president of Grand Isle LNG is David Chung, the founder and former CEO of Annova LNG of the cancelled Annova LNG Terminal.[4]

In February 2024, the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) and the Coast Guard (USCG) stopped processing the LNG terminal's application because its sponsor withdrew it. The project was now considered shelved.[2]
