Background
The Green Hysland project is an integrated green hydrogen project intended to generate, distribute and use at least 300 tonnes of renewable hydrogen locally per year, produced from solar energy on the island of Mallorca.[6] More than 30 corporate entities are involved in this project.
The project features 3.2km of newly built hydrogen-capable pipelines, and 30 additional km of hydrogen tube-trailers connecting to the Losetta hydrogen production plant.[4] In September, 2024, this project became one of the first instances of achieved hydrogen and natural gas blending in Spain, with the first injections starting in September.[7] The pipeline is currently only blending 2% hydrogen in the system, supplying it to the Ca's Tresorer power station, where power generation using blended natural gas and hydrogen will begin.[8]
