Background
According to an October 2016 report, Compañia Minera San Jose Ltda., a subsidiary of New Colombia Resources, was in negotiations to build a 300 MW coal plant near the site of the company's coal reserves, which are 70 percent metallurgical and 30 percent thermal.[1]
New Colombia Resources is the owner of the La Tabaquera matallurgical coal mine with an estimated 15-17 tonnes of reserves. The company had another pending acquisition for 390 ha and a solicitation contract for 184 ha. The company also is a part owner of Sannabis SAS, an exporter of medical marijuana products.
During 2017, feasibility studies and approval of work plans were underway and beginning to be approved by local bodies and the National Agency of Mining (ANM).[2] As of June 2021 there has been no further news about the project and it appears to be cancelled.
