Background on Project
A proposed 600 MW power station by China Guodian was was completed in 2012 at 700 MW. [9] [10] The plant was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in 2014. [11] It is a co-generation power plant, supplying heat to Zhaoqing High Tech Industrial Park, besides electricity generation.[12] Another 800-megawatt (MW) gas-fired power plant at the same location is under construction.[13]
The Phase II Gas Cogeneration Project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission on September 30, 2021, and officially entered into construction in September 2022. It is expected to commence operations in 2023.[14][15]
Ownership
On August 28 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[16][17] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[18]
