Background on Project
China Datang is currently planning to build a coal-fired power plant with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW in Sichuan Province.[1] The power station was permitted in April 2016.[2]However, the sponsor company decided not to pursue this project after its permission, due to dim market prospect.[3]
January 2017: Suspended by name
In January 2017 China's National Energy Administration suspended over 100 planned and under-construction coal power projects by name, including Guangyuan. The projects had a total capacity of over 100GW in 13 provinces. It was unclear when or if the projects will be revived.[4]
For details, see China's 2016 Restrictions on Development of Coal-Fired Power Capacity.
