Phase 2

The second phase of the project received filing certificate in December 2022 from the governmental authority of Guangzhou Nansha Economic Zone. Phase 2 will add two more storage tanks of 160,000 cubic meters each at the reserved land of the LNG terminal. The total investment of second phase is 1.7 billion yuan. The gas storage capacity after the second phase will reach 640,000 cubic meters.

In August 2023, the second phase of the project received environmental impact assessment approval from the authority, one step closer to receiving permit for construction.

Background

In May 2018, a contract to build the terminal was signed between China Huadian, Guangzhou Port, Guangzhou Nansha Zhenrong Storeage, and Tongton Supply Chain Group.

In January 2019, when the first environmental impact assessment was publicised for public participation, the owner of the project has shifted to Guangzhou Gas Group Co., Ltd.

The construction of the LNG terminal began in September 30, 2019. It will build two 160,000-cubic-meter storage tanks. The total receiving storage capacity is 1 mtpa. The investment was estimated at 4.38 billion yuan ($666.7 million).

In August 2023, the first cargo was delivered to Phase 1 of the terminal, and it is presumed to be operating.
