Background

The first phase of Guangzhou Pearl River LNG power station (广州珠江LNG电厂) (Unit1-1 and 1-2) uses natural gas from Australia. The project was officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on December 14, 2002, and construction began on December 28, 2004. Unit 1-1 and Unit 1-2 started commercial operations on December 24, 2006, and March 14, 2007, respectively.[10]

The second phase of Guangzhou Pearl River LNG power station (广州珠江LNG电厂) (Unit 2-1 and 2-2) received approval from the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission on November 25, 2020, and officially entered the construction phase on October 28, 2021. Unit 2-1 commenced commercial operations on October 26, 2023, and Unit 2-2 is scheduled to start commercial operations in 2023.[11][12]
