Guodian Shuangwei Shanghaimiao power station (国能内蒙古上海庙发电厂, also known as 国电双维内蒙古上海庙发电厂) is a 2,000-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.

Background on Plant

In 2011 it was reported that China Guodian and China National Tobacco Corporation were working together to develop a 2,000 MW power station in Ordos City. The power station was planned for operation in 2018.

The project was permitted in July 2016. Construction began in October 2018. Operation was planned for 2020-2021.

Unit 1 began operating on December 27, 2021.

Unit 2 began operation in July 2022.

Ownership

On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer. The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.
