Background on Project
Hebei Construction & Investment Group and China Guodian (now National Energy Investment Group) have proposed a coal-fired power plant with a total planned capacity of 1,320 MW in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. China Guodian said it eventually plans to expand the power station to a total of 3,960 MW.[2] Its EIA report received approval from then National Environmental Protection General Bureau in 2007.[3] Due to not beginning construction within 5 years, the project applied environment clearance again and received EIA approval again in November 2018[4]. The proposal began feasibility study in 2013.[2][5]
The plant was permitted for construction in April 2018 as a "supporting power project for the Mengxi-Tianjin Nantu high-voltage transmission channel".[6]
A ceremony for the construction-begin was held in October 2019.[7] However, the actual construction only began in April 2021.[8]
On 28 July 2023, Unit 1 successfully passed 168 hours test run and entered commercial operation.[9][10]
