Background
Guohua Zhoushan power station has four units, totaling 910 MW. The plant was originally majority-owned by Shenhua Group. The two most recent units (Units 3 and 4) were completed in 2010 and 2014.[4] [5]
Unit 1 was retired in 2019, and unit 2 in 2020.[6][7]
Proposed expansion
In October 2014 Shenhua Group proposed a 2 x 660 MW expansion of the coal plant, with a planned commissioning of 2018.[8]
In 2021, the province listed this project as an "energy security" project in 14th FYP period.[9]
The new phase appeared permitted by February 2022[10] Construction reportedly began in May 2022.[11]
Ownership
On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[12][13] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[14]
