Background
The station is located in Aomoriyachi Kawaragi, Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, Japan.[5][6] Some of the plant's coal-fired units have been retired and replaced with biomass-fired capacity.
Partial biomass replacement
In 2017, Mitsubishi announced a plan to replace the existing coal-fired plant at its Hachinohe paper mill with a biomass-fired plant.[7] Construction of the biomass plant began in November 2017.[8] The biomass plant was commissioned in September 2019 and two units, Units 6 and 7, at the coal-fired plant were retired.[9][10]
