Background
In September 2020, Sri Lanka announced its first LNG project in the Port of Hambantota. The project entails the creation of an LNG hub (LNG trading facility) to supply the chilled fuel to the Maldives and other South Asian nations. The project will utilize an floating storage and regasification unit with an initial capacity of 1 MMtpa.[1]
In March 2021, Socar Trading confirmed that it would join Pearl Energy in developing the project.[2]
There have been no updates in over two years, and the project is presumed to be shelved as of 2023.
