Background

Hamina LNG Terminal is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal under development in Kymenlaakso Region. It appears to have been first proposed in December 2014.[7]

Construction began in May 2017.[7] The project was built by Hamina LNG Oy, a joint venture of Hamina Energy Ltd, Estonian energy company Alexela, and Finnish technology company Wärtsilä. It was 30% funded through a state grant.[2]

Tender was issued on the project in October 2016.[8] Construction began in June 2017, and was scheduled to be completed in 2020.[9]

As of October 2020, the terminal was expected to begin operations in April 2021.[10]

In August 2021, a press release from the Hamina LNG company announced that commercial operations had been delayed until an as yet unspecified date in 2022.[6]

In April 2022, Hamina LNG said that the terminal would enter commercial operations in October 2022 and that it had already launched plans to increase the terminal's capacity.[11]

In October 2022, Hamina LNG Terminal began commercial operations.[1]
