Background

The proposed project was meant to serve the C4GT and Chickahominy gas plant in Charles City County,[1] stretching from Prince William County in Northern Virginia south to the city of Chesapeake.[2] VNG proposed to construct three new fracked-gas pipelines with a total length of 24 miles, and three new or expanded gas compressor stations from Northern Virginia, through the middle of the state, and over to Hampton Roads.[3]

In December 2020, Virginia State Corporation Commission rejected the request for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity necesary to approve the project.[2] The project would impact sites and communities in Prince William County, Charles City County, Caroline County and the city of Chesapeake.[2] The project was cancelled after heavy opposition from activists and after VNG was unable to prove that C4GT had secured adequate financing.[1] The project is said to have been repackaged as Virginia (VNG) Interconnect Project.[1]

Opposition

The project came under heavy criticism from activist for its reckless permit avoidance.[1] The project was nicknamed "Header Injustice Project" by the activists.[4][5]
